In Saudi Arabia, women are legally subject to a male guardian, who must give his approval for basic decisions on education, marriage, travel and even medical treatment.
Dina Ali Lasloom is a Saudi women who attempted to seek asylum in Australia to escape Saudi guardianship laws. She was stopped during transit at Manila Airport on April 10, 2017, and sent back to Saudi Arabia the next day. Dina's current whereabouts remain unknown. Sources stated that she is held at the Correctional Facility for Women in Riyadh.
